In the summer of 2009, FC Hunedoara was founded, to keep alive the football in Hunedoara. Not to be confused with its predecessor Corvinul Hunedoara or SC Corvinul 2005 Hunedoara , however the club is still considered a phoenix club despite no legal continuity between the three.FC Hunedoara missed promotion by a slight margin . In the summer of 2016 the club was excluded from Liga III due to financial problems . In the same summer the club was reorganized and changing its name to CS Hunedoara and enrolling directly in the Liga IV , but without a promotion right for the 2016–17 Liga IV season .
