Careel 18

The Compass Careel 18 is an 18 ft long trailer sailer manufactured in Australia by David Rose Yachts.
The Careel 18 was originally built in 1968 by John Duncanson as a Duncanson 18, with David rose taking over manufacturing and renaming the boats as Careel 18. It came out at a time when there was a boom in trailer sailers, but unlike many of its contemporaries, it still remains popular today. 481 Careel 22s were built with the production run lasting for more than 30 years.
The boat was produced in three versions; Mk I, Mk II and Mk III with successive design changes including additional ballast and increases to deck and cabin height.
Careels 18s sail under the Careel Cruising Yacht Association along with their larger sisters, the Careel 22. The Careel association holds regular class based race meets and social events throughout the year, mostly around Sydney. The association also holds annual championships for the class. In 2004 the association was seeing a resurgence with a core group of members in Sydney, 30–40 in Melbourne and 10–12 in Canberra.
