International career

Duarte gained 7 caps and scored 1 goal for the Portugal national football team. He made his debut against South Africa 21 November 1953 in Lisbon in a 3-1 win.

Said one day the famous journalist Tavares da Silva:
"In Portugal, Carlos Duarte, from FC Porto, and David Julius, from Sporting are the only players to dribble in a straight line."
The speed of Carlos Duarte and the short dribble that he made, sometimes in one-two combinations with the equally famous Hernani, or alone in a straight line on the way to the opposing goal, enchanted the portista fans, and dazzled football lovers.
