Carlos Matamoros Franco


Carlos Matamoros Franco, is an Ecuadorian chess Grandmaster , Chess Olympiad individual gold and silver medalist.

Biography

In 1981, Carlos Matamoros Franco won bronze medal in World Youth Chess Championship in U16 age group. In 1986, he participated in World Junior Chess Championship. In 2005, he participated in Chess World Cup but in first round lost to Victor Bologan.
Carlos Matamoros Franco is winner of many international chess tournaments. In 1997, in Capablanca Memorial he shared second place. Also Carlos Matamoros Franco won four times international chess tournament Malaga Open. He has been first in Seville's international chess tournaments twice in a row. In 2008, Carlos Matamoros Franco in a pair with Martha Fierro won gold medal in World Mind Sports Games in Mixed Pairs Blitz event.

In 1987, he was awarded the FIDE International Master title and in 2002 he received the FIDE Grandmaster title. Carlos Matamoros Franco was the first Ecuadorian chess player to become a Grandmaster.
