Cartoon Network (Portuguese TV channel)

Cartoon Network, commonly abbreviated as CN, is a Portuguese digital cable and satellite television channel launched on 3 December 2013 and owned by Warner Bros. Europe. Currently, Cartoon Network is the second most-watched kids and teens' channel in Portugal, recently surpassing Canal Panda and is now only behind Disney Channel.

History

The feed received in Portugal, Angola and Mozambique was transmitted for a long time, that is also received in countries that don't have their own version of the channel.
The Portuguese-language version of the channel was launched on 1 October 2013 in Angola and Mozambique.
From 3 December 2013, the channel was officially launched in Portugal on all cable operators, switching the Pan-European version. On the same day it was launched, the channel started transmitting in the image format. It is believed that the channel switched feeds due to the low ratings the previous feed was suffering in the past few years. The Pan-European English feed was removed from ZON basic cable services, along with other foreign language international channels on 1 February 2010, and Portuguese-language Panda Biggs included in its place.
When the Pan-European feed was still transmitted, the daily broadcast was of 15 hours in Portugal. From that time, the channel was airing first with TNT, focusing on classic movies and professional wrestling, and in the final years with Turner Classic Movies. Some cable TV operators preferred dividing the two channels with their own dial. Shortly after the release of Portugal's version of the channel, TCM and Boomerang stopped being aired in Portugal.
Around February 2014, the channel started airing advertisements, but in March 2014, they stopped airing them, returning in the mid of the month.
Cartoon Network Portugal was also the first European CN to adopt the CHECK it 3.0 branding.
On 30 May 2014 and until 30 March 2017, the Cartoon Network used the white background graphics. On 31 March 2017, it changed its design to a version based on the Dimensional era of the original Cartoon Network.
On 26 April 2018 it was launched at NOWO and Vodafone, the Boomerang channel, which is a channel that was born from a block of Cartoon Network programming. It is also worth remembering that the channel had already been launched in Angola and Mozambique on 21 April 2015 and that the European channel came out at the time when Cartoon Network was launched in Portuguese.
