Castle Freke

A large castle that originated as a tower house dating back to the 15th Century stands to the west of the village. Originally owned by the Barry family, the Frekes occupied the building by 1617. The family, along with the intermarried Evans family became the Barons of Carbery. The castle was rebuilt by Sir John Evans-Freke in 1780, using the original design.
