Catheter lock solution
Catheter lock solution of which one type is sold under the brand name Taurolock are a number of solutions put into catheters. Neutrolin is an anti-microbial catheter lock solution developed by Cormedix/Cormedix GmbH. A catheter lock solution is used to fill the catheter when not in use, primarily to prevent clotting. Neutrolin contains heparin and citrate, two compounds commonly used to prevent thrombosis and maintain catheter patency.
Neutrolin also contains taurolidine, an anti-microbial agent that has been shown to be safe and effective in preventing bacterial colonization of catheters No resistance to taurolidine has been observed to date.
