Chamardi


History

Historically, Chamardi was one of many separate tribute-paying princely states in Gohilwar prant, under the colonial authority of the Eastern Kathiawar Agency, comprising solely the village and ruled by Gohil Rajput Chieftains, from the Bhayat dynasty of Bhavnagar State. It was the headquarter of an Agency thana.
The population according to the census of 1872 was 2371 and according to that of 1881 of 2117 souls. In 1901, it had a population of 2,168 and was yielding a state revenue of 10,000 Rupees, paying a tribute of 858 Rupees, to the Gaekwar Baroda State and Junagadh State.

Geography

It lies at the foot of several bold trachyte peaks, the lower boulders of which are water-worn and point to a day when all the Bhal district was a shallow sea connected with the Ran. The Kalobhar used to flow two miles to the north west of this village, but about half a century ago it changed its course and now flows about half a mile to the south of it. The river is spanned by a fine bridge.

Chamardi lies in a taluka of Bhavnagar district. Electorally, it is part of Bhavnagar parliamentary constituency for the Lok Sabha and of Gadhada assembly constituency, all in Gujarat.

The village, at 37 metres above sea level, is located 7 km from nearest town Valbhipur and 26 km west from district headquarters Bhavnagar, 200 km from state capital Gandhinagar. There is two railway station closer than 21 and 16 km, one of the major railway station, Name is Kalupur Railway Station, Ahmedabad, 175 km near to Chamardi. Then the air connectivity also available from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport Ahmadabad 180 km far from CHAMARDI

Population and culture

The main languages are: Gujarati and Hindi and English.
The main occupation of the villagers remains agriculture.
Education is provided by the local Chamardi Primary School and further establishment at Bhavnagar.
