Chantal, Princess of Hanover

Chantal Hochuli, formerly Chantal, Princess of Hanover, Duchess of Brunswick and Lüneburg, is a Swiss socialite and heiress. She is the ex-wife of Ernst August, Prince of Hanover, the head of the German House of Hanover.

Biography

Chantal Hochuli was born on 2 June 1955 in Zürich to Johann Gustav Hochuli, a Swiss millionaire and architect, and Rosmarie Lembeck.
Hochuli and Ernst August, Hereditary Prince of Hanover, got engaged in 1980. Ernst August's father, Ernst August, Hereditary Prince of Brunswick, Prince of Hanover, opposed the relationship due to Hochuli's bourgeois ancestry. In 1981 he changed his position and modified the House of Hanover's dynastic laws so that the marriage could take place. Hochuli married Ernst August, Hereditary Prince of Hanover, on 28 August 1981 at a civil service in Pattensen, Germany. A religious ceremony was held on 30 August 1981 at Marienburg Castle. They have two children, Prince Ernst August and Prince Christian.
In 1987 Ernst August succeeded his father as the head of the House of Hanover, styled as The Prince of Hanover, Duke of Brunswick and Lüneburg. Hochuli, in turn, was styled as The Princess of Hanover, Duchess of Brunswick and Lüneburg.
Hochuli and Ernst August divorced on 23 October 1997. Ernst August later married Princess Caroline of Monaco and Hochuli began a relationship with Prince Alessandro Ruffo di Calabria. Later she dated Nicholas Scott, until his death in 2017. She is a godmother of Ferdinand Zvonimir von Habsburg. Hochuli lives in London.
