Chen Wenqing


Chen Wenqing is a Chinese politician, Minister of State Security of the People's Republic of China since November 2016.

Biography

A native of Renshou County, Sichuan, he studied Law and Political Science at Southwest University in Chongqing, and entered the Ministry of Public Security in 1984, where he worked for ten years; in 1994 he was assigned to the Ministry of State Security, becoming Deputy Director at the Sichuan provincial State Security Department.
In 1998 Chen took over leadership of the Department. He held this position until 2002, when he was appointed Chief Prosecutor at the Sichuan provincial People's Procuratorate. In 2006, Chen moved over to Fujian, where he served until 2012 as Deputy Party Secretary and concurrently head of the provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection. Following the 18th Communist Party Congress at which Xi Jinping came to power, Chen came to Beijing to become one of the deputy secretaries of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.
He was appointed Minister of State Security in November 2016.
