Chiesa dei Bigi, Grosseto

The Chiesa dei Bigi, also once called the Church of Santa Chiara is a Renaissance-style, deconsecrated Roman Catholic church in the commune of Grosseto, region of Tuscany, Italy. It is near the church of San Francesco.

History

The late 16th-century small church was attached to a Clarissan order Convent in the center of the town. It was originally an oratory dedicated to Saint Claire, then assigned to the Company of the Saints Ludovico and Gherardo – called Bigi after the colour of their clothes – in 1796. The brick facade has a bell in the center of the tympanum. It is now used, along with the former convent, for cultural activities.
