According to the Literacy Survey conducted as part of the Total Literacy Campaign in 1989, this Panchayat had the largest number of illiterate people in Kollam district. However, as years passed, there has been considerable development in the field of education. Initially, this village had only a Lower Primary and Upper Primary School, both managed by the Government. Later, the SN Trust started a high School at Thumpamaonthodi. Another lower primary school, Al Mina also functioned here.
