Chraime

Chraime is a dish of fish in spicy tomato sauce which originates in the Maghreb. It is somewhat similar to an older dish called sharmola. The name of the dish originates from Arabic and means "prohibited" or "illegal".
Chraime is traditionally eaten by Jews on Erev Shabbat as well as on Rosh Hashanah and Passover for the Seder. Maghrebi-Jewish immigrants have popularized the dish in Israel.
