Chris Gabrieli


Chris Gabrieli is an American education activist and entrepreneur, businessman, lecturer at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and current chairman of the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education.

Early life

Chris Gabrieli was born in Buffalo, New York on February 5th, 1960 and graduated with an A.B. in 1981 from Harvard College.

Career

Gabrieli was a Democratic Party candidate for Congress in 1998, and was the nominee for Lieutenant Governor in the 2002 Massachusetts gubernatorial election.
In 2000, Gabrieli co-founded the educational charity, Massachusetts 2020. In 2006, Gabrieli came in second place in 2006 Massachusetts gubernatorial primary election, losing to eventual winner Deval Patrick.
Gabrieli is a senior partner at Bessemer Venture Partners where he focuses on the biotechnology industry.
In 2008, Gabrieli co-authored, Time to Learn: How a New School Schedule is Making Smarter Kids, Happier Parents, and Safer Neighborhoods. Gabrieli leads a movement to redesign the school calendar. He is the co-founder of Transforming Education. He is also the co-chair of the National Center on Time & Learning, an education policy organization.

Personal life

Gabrieli lives in Boston with his wife and their five children. Gabrielli has one brother, John Gabrieli, who is a neuroscientist and professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
