Chris Nonis


Chris Nonis, MRCP is a Sri Lankan physician and diplomat. He was a presidential adviser on international affairs and Sri Lankan High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. He was the chairman of the Mackwoods Group.
Nonis studied at The Royal Free Hospital Medical School and graduated with a MBBS from the Imperial College London, University of London. He then undertook his electives at the Harvard Medical School and completed his postgraduate studies at Addenbrooke's Hospital and gained Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom.
Later joining the family business the Mackwoods Group of Companies, he became its chairman. In 2008, he was appointed as the deputy chairman of the Royal Commonwealth Society. He was appointed the by President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Sri Lankan High Commissioner in London effective from 1 September 2011. He played a major role during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2013 in Sri Lanka. He resigned from the position in 20 October 2014 after he was assaulted by Sajin Vass Gunawardena. In 2015, he was appointed the presidential adviser on international affairs by President Maithripala Sirisena.
