Clare Peploe


Clare Peploe is a British screenwriter, producer and film director.

Early life

Peploe was born in Tanzania but grew up in England and Italy, and has a brother named Mark Peploe. At an early age, Peploe developed an interest in cinema and art.

Education

Peploe studied at the Sorbonne and University of Perugia.

Career

Peploe debuted as a director with the short film, Couples and Robbers which received Oscar and BAFTA nominations. Her third feature, The Triumph of Love competed at the 2001 Venice Film Festival and was nominated for the Golden Lion Award. As a screenwriter, Peploe is recognised as a frequent collaborator with her husband, Bernardo Bertolucci. She is also credited with co-writing the 1970 cult film, Zabriskie Point with Michelangelo Antonioni and others.
