Clive Alderton


Clive Alderton CVO is a British diplomat and courtier who was appointed Principal Private Secretary to Charles, Prince of Wales and his wife the Duchess of Cornwall on 5 February 2015.

Education

Alderton was educated at Abingdon School.

Previous career

He joined the Foreign Office in 1986, and subsequently served in various diplomatic posts in Poland, Belgium, Singapore and France. In 2006, he was appointed Deputy Private Secretary to Prince Charles and his wife, and was promoted to the rank of Private Secretary for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs to Their Royal Highnesses in 2009. In 2012, he took up an appointment as ambassador to Morocco and simultaneously non-resident ambassador to Mauritania.
Alderton was appointed Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order in the 2013 New Year Honours and Commander of the Royal Victorian Order in the 2019 Birthday Honours.
Alderton is also a Trustee of the Prince of Wales's Charitable Fund.
