Community Media Workshop

Community Media Workshop is the original name of Public Narrative, a nonprofit organization based in Chicago that connects oft-neglected communities with the media to promote news that matters. Founded in 1989, the Workshop believes that thoughtful news with diverse sources is a catalyst for change and the key to successful democracy and healthy communities.
The name of the organization was changed in 2015.
The organization trains people and nonprofits with limited resources to tell their stories to the media, tips journalists to these stories and publishes "Getting on the Air and into Print," a regional media directory of over 600 outlets and 3,500 journalists. The Workshop hosts weekly cable and radio shows featuring grassroots voices. Annually, the organization sponsors the Making Media Connections conference, featuring hundreds of journalists and nonprofits communicators, in addition to the Studs Terkel Media Awards, recognizing outstanding journalists who dig deep into community issues.
