Coppery emerald


The coppery emerald is a species of hummingbird in the family Trochilidae.
It is found in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and Serranía del Perijá.

Appearance

Coppery emeralds are very small in size. Males are often 8–8.5 cm and females are usually 7–7.5 cm. Males plumage is green with more darker colors going down such as copper orange and grey whereas females are brown with a green tinge.

Habitat

The coppery emerald is found most commonly in the northern most regions of Colombia and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist montane forest and heavily degraded former forest.
