Coroner (TV series)


Coroner is a Canadian drama television series developed by Morwyn Brebner, and based on the Jenny Cooper series of novels by M. R. Hall. The series premiered on CBC in January 2019. It was announced in May 2020 that a third season of the series has been ordered.

Overview

The series stars Serinda Swan as Jenny Cooper, a recently-widowed coroner in Toronto who investigates suspicious deaths.

Cast

The series was developed from the M. R. Hall novels for television by Morwyn Brebner, and was produced by Muse Entertainment, Back Alley Film Productions, and Cineflix Studios, with Adrienne Mitchell as executive producer and lead director.
The first season of Coroner consists of 8 episodes. Following the finale of the first season, on March 25, 2019 CBC renewed Coroner for an 8-episode second season. It was announced in May 2020 that a third season is to follow.

Release

The series premiered on CBC on January 7, 2019, and attracted more than 1 million viewers per episode throughout the first season. The series was subsequently renewed for second season.
In October 2018, it was announced that NBCUniversal International Networks had acquired rights to air Coroner around the world. The series of eight one-hour episodes will premiere in the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Poland, Africa, Latin America, Brazil, and Australia from late 2019. Cineflix announced that the UK airing of Coroner constituted Universal TV’s strongest ever series launch.
In May 2020, The CW acquired the U.S. broadcast rights for the series and set to premiere on August 5, 2020.

Ratings

Coroner attracted 1 million viewers per episode throughout its first season.
