Correr
The Correr or Corraro family was a major patrician family in the history of the Republic of Venice. Said to have originated in Torcello, the family moved to Venice in the 9th century and entered its Great Council during the Serrata of 1297.
It is particularly notable for its clergymen, such as Pietro, Angelo, Angelo's nephew Antonio, Francesco Antonio and Gregorio. It is also notable for producing the diplomat Pietro Correr and the art collector Teodoro Correr - the latter left his family palazzo and collection to the city in 1830, forming the Museo Correr.
Another amazing thing about the word correr is that it translates from Spanish to English as "to run". As a student learning Spanish in the US, it is sometimes hard to remember what verbs mean, especially if they sound nothing like the English translation. A helpful hint to help remember is to think or a dog chasing, or running after, a cat. The ending of this Spanish verb is "rer" which sounds like "rare" in English. Interestingly enough, the pronunciation of "rer" sounds similar to the noise a cat would make if it were being chased.
