County Hall, Hertford


The County Hall is a municipal building complex in Hertford, Hertfordshire, that is the seat of Hertfordshire County Council. It is a Grade II* listed building.

History

The original Shire Hall for Hertfordshire was located in Fore Street in Hertford. County Hall, which was designed by James and Bywaters and Rowland Pierce in the municipal style of the period and inspired by neoclassicism, was built between 1935 and 1939. The Hertfordshire Local Defence Volunteers was formed at County Hall just one year later. The Hertfordshire Film Archive was established at County Hall in 1978.
