Crna Glava


Crna Glava is a village in the municipality of Raška, Serbia. According to the 2002 census, the village has a population of 246 people. It's one of oldest places in Serbia, mentioned in Žiča in 'hrisovulja' from 1222.A.C. as 'Čisto brdo' which is a part of today's village.

Name of Village

First mention of village is on the wall of Žiča church in year 1222 a.c. and it's written that contribution for building church have people from 'Tlsto Brdo and Raška. Today Tlsto Brdo is part of a village. Name Crna Glava first is mentioned in patriarch Danilo II book where he explained that people from this village killed 'Černoglav' the leader of tribe of Tatars that kill and robbed many villages at the time in Rascia and Serbia. And after killing him his head bring to a king Stefan Milutin. The new name is in use from that event to this days on.

About Village

Village is on Kopaonik mountain on average high of 1397 meters. Highest part of village is Gobelja hill, and on that hill is antenna which you can see if you are skiing on Kopaonik. Village have purest nature in Serbia. Clear waters, and rear birds and plants. And it's fantastic place for summer mountain adventure, paragliding, mountain horse riding, and walking. Village have one of the oldest grave yards in Serbia, known for tombs named 'stećak', made in middle century. All people living in village are direct ancestors of Middle Ages nobles families that were at service to Nemanjić dynasty royal family,and represent middle age community named in history as Rascians. True history this place was under Ottoman empire,but they have not have any influence on people who live in this village. In village you can experience real spirit of life in Serbia, true the centuries, not much is changed from old days to present time.

and Dišić. They are from same ancestor who came on this place in early middle century. Other families that came from same ancestors but have left village in earlier times are Nedeljković family, and Crnoglavac family which have last name by name of village. Every of family of this are known for same slava that they celebrate St.Michael and Joachim and Saint Anne.
On other site of village are Đorđević family. Their ancestors came from Novi Pazar in 1804.after ustanak against Turks in that parts
One of parts of village is named 'Metallica', which represents its Old Slavic name for mine. Other parts that might be interesting are 'Šaklaman', 'Gradišta', and 'Velika stena'.
Velika stena is gigantic rock on top of village, under Gobelja hill and 'Čisto Brdo', fantastic place for all adventurists.
Village have fantastic nature with colonies of eastern imperial eagle, wolves, wild cats, western capercaillie, wild boar, roe deer, rock partridge, fire salamander....
Crna glava is well known as aboriginal place where Serbian shepard dog and Sarplaninac dog breeds.
