Cuba–Kenya relations


Cuba–Kenya relations are bilateral relations between Cuba and Kenya.

History

Cuba and Kenya established relations in 2001 when Cuba established a resident mission in Nairobi.
President Kenyatta made an official visit to Cuba in 2018. He was received by President Raul Castro at the Revolution Palace in Havana in March 2018.

Cooperation

Some agreements on cooperation between Cuba and Kenya have been signed over the years. The agreements cover the health, sports and education sectors.
In 2018 Kenya and Cuba signed an agreement to bring 100 Cuban doctors to Kenya to share their health expertise. This was because Cuba has one of the most affordable health care systems and because Cuba has made some notable medical achievements.

Trade

Bilateral trade between Cuba and Kenya stood at US$ 19.8 million in 2010 but it has dropped to lows of less than US$ 100,000 annually. Imports from Cuba mostly consist of alcohol and cigars.
