Curtis Hixon
Curtis Hixon was mayor of Tampa, Florida from November 1943 until his death in 1956.
Hixon was born and raised in Louisville, Alabama. Hixon studies pharmacology at the School of Pharmacy in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1914, Hixon moved to Tampa, Florida where he became a pharmacist. He joined the Tampa City Council in 1929, serving until his resignation in 1939. In 1939, Hixon was elected to the Hillsborough County Commission, and successfully ran for mayor in 1943.
Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park is named for him, as was Curtis Hixon Hall before it was demolished in 1993.
