Cyprus in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011

Cyprus participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Düsseldorf, Germany. The winner of the talent show Performance, broadcast by the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation, was the Cypriot entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2011, which was decided on 10 September 2010.

Before Eurovision

Performance

CyBC announced in December 2009 that the Cypriot entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 would be selected through the singing competition of the new talent show, Performance. CyBC accepted applications from anyone between 16 and 30 years old. 13 weekly shows were held from 19 March 2010, with 39 contestants being selected by a jury consisting of Lia Vissi, Costas Kakoyiannis, Neoclis Neocleous and Fotis Nikolaou and a public televote to progress to the next stage.
The top nine contestants from the original 39 went forward to compete in the final of Performance on 10 September. The final was held on 10 September 2010 at the CyBC TV Studios in Nicosia, hosted by Marina Maleni. The winner was chosen by televoting. Christos Mylordos was selected as the winner, singing "Supreme" by Robbie Williams.

Song selection

On 26 November, CyBC called for songs for Christos Mylordos. Submissions could be entered until 31 December, and then a seven-member jury internally selected the song for Mylordos. On 20 January, CyBC announced the title of the song, "San Aggelos S'agapisa".

At Eurovision

According to local media, Alex Panayi, who had already represented Cyprus in 1995 and 2000, was being considered as an option to join the Cypriot team as a backing vocalist. On December 2010, Alex Panayi denied the rumors, but said that he was willing to help and support if CyBC asks him to.
Cyprus competed ninth in the second semi-final of the contest, on 12 May. Cyprus placed eighteenth with 16 points and failed to qualify for the final.
