Czech Republic in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009

Internal selection

ČT decided to internally select the third Czech entry for Eurovision, after the multi-artist national final, EuroSong, failed to qualify Czech Republic to the final. Gipsy.cz, who had previously taken part both the 2007 and 2008 Czech national finals, was chosen by ČT to represent the country in Moscow.

National final

The Czech audience were given a choice of two songs to select the one which would represent their country in Moscow. The voting took place between 1 and 14 March. A press conference where all the details would be revealed took place on 16 February. The winning song was officially presented on 21 March during the ČT Anděl Music Awards, which was "Aven Romale".

At Eurovision

Since the Czech Republic is not one of the "Big Four" and was not the host of the 2009 contest, it competed in one of the two semi-finals. At the semi-final allocation draw on 30 January, it was decided that the country would compete in the first semi-final on 12 May 2009. ČT announced it would broadcast only the first semi final and the final of the contest, not broadcasting the second semi-final. Gipsy.cz performed second in the first semifinal. It got no points and placed last. "Aven Romale" is the sixteenth song getting zero points.
