Dali Mpofu


Dali Mpofu is a South African lawyer and politician who is the former National Chairperson of the Economic Freedom Fighters and have been serving on the party's central command team since 2013.

Career and personal life

Mpofu began practicing law after he completed his LLB at the University of South Africa in 1991. He joined the African National Congress in 1989 during apartheid where he served as a member of the ANC Youth League. He is known for reportedly having an affair with Winnie Mandela the former wife of Nelson Mandela, while the latter was imprisoned on Robin Island. In a letter penned by Mrs. Mandela, she admitted to giving Dali Mpofu R160 000 of misappropriated ANC funds. In 2014, he left the ANC after 33 years and joined Julius Malema's EFF.

Tenure as CEO of SABC

Mpofu served as CEO of the embattled SABC for 4 years. He was suspended with payment for 18 months. He reiceived a R12 million golden handshake in August 2009 that marked the end of a disastrous period for the public broadcaster.
