Darryl David


Darryl David is a Singaporean politician and former media personality. He is an MP of Ang Mo Kio Group Representation Constituency in his Ang Mo Kio-Hougang Ward and is a member of the People's Action Party. David is also the Chief Executive Officer of SJI International School.

Education

David attended St Michael’s Primary School, Raffles Institution, and Raffles Junior College. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English literature at the National University of Singapore. David holds a Master of Business Administration from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and a Master in Public Administration from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.

Career

David was the host of the Singapore television game show, The Pyramid Game, in the 1990s. He was the Deputy Director of the School of Design at Temasek Polytechnic before joining SJI International School in 2017.
In 2009, he became the District Councilor with the North-East Community Development Council.

Political career

David was announced as a candidate for the People's Action Party in Ang Mo Kio Group Representation Constituency in the 2015 General Election. The PAP team was led to a resounding victory and David was elected to the 13th Parliament of Singapore. David is the Deputy Chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Culture, Community & Youth. He also sits on the GPCs for Communications & Information and Social & Family Development.
In his maiden parliamentary speech, David suggested passing a basic English test and doing mandatory community work as additional criteria to become a Singapore citizen.
In the 2020 Budget debate, David called for more subsidies for after-school care even after children graduate from pre-school.

Personal life

Darryl David was born in Singapore and is of Indian and Chinese heritage, his father is Indian and mother is Chinese. His parents divorced and he was raised by his mother. David is bilingual in English and Mandarin Chinese and also speaks conversational Hokkien. David was previously married to radio personality Georgina Chang. He has been married to lawyer Christina Sim since 2006 and they have 2 children.
