David Der-wei Wang


David Der-wei Wang is the Edward C. Henderson Professor of Chinese Literature at Harvard University, and Academician, Academia Sinica. He has extensively written on modern and contemporary Chinese literature, comparative literary theory, and Chinese intellectuals and artists in the 20th century.

Career

David Der-wei Wang took his B.A. in foreign languages and literature from National Taiwan University, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Wang taught at National Taiwan University, Harvard University, and Columbia University. In 2004, he rejoined Harvard and was named Edward C. Henderson Professor of East Asian Languages and Cultures.
David Wang once served as the head of the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Columbia University, when he taught there as the. In 2000, he succeeded Irene Bloom as chair of the University Committee on Asia and the Middle East.
