According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP covers an area of 2.7 square miles, 99.97% of it land and 0.03% of it water. The 2010 United States census reported Desert Palms's population was 6,957.

Demographics

At the 2010 census Desert Palms had a population of 6,957. The population density was 2,604.5 people per square mile. The racial makeup of Desert Palms was 6,728 White, 59 African American, 16 Native American, 95 Asian, 5 Pacific Islander, 15 from other races, and 39 from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 177 people.
The whole population lived in households, no one lived in non-institutionalized group quarters and no one was institutionalized.
There were 4,104 households, 11 had children under the age of 18 living in them, 2,424 were opposite-sex married couples living together, 71 had a female householder with no husband present, 23 had a male householder with no wife present. There were 120 unmarried opposite-sex partnerships, and 46 same-sex married couples or partnerships. 1,381 households were one person and 1,208 had someone living alone who was 65 or older. The average household size was 1.70. There were 2,518 families ; the average family size was 2.04.
