Diane Paragas
Diane Paragas is a Filipino-American documentary and narrative film and commercial director. Her 2011 documentary film Brooklyn Boheme was about the African Arts movement that launched the careers of Spike Lee, Chris Rock, Branford Marsalis, and Rosie Perez, among others. It was the opening night film for the 2011 Urbanworld Film Festival and premiered on Showtime. The film won the Black Reel Outstanding TV Documentary Award.
Paragas co-directed the film with Nelson George as well as serving as a producer, editor and cinematographer.
In 2019, Paragas wrote and directed her debut narrative feature Yellow Rose, which stars Eva Noblezada and Lea Salonga. The film was selected as the Opening Night Film of the 2019 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival. The film won the NYWIFT Ravenal Grant and won the inaugural ABS-CBN Cinematografo Grant. Yellow Rose won Grand Jury Prizes at LAAPF, Bentonville Film Festival, CAAMFEST37, Urbanworld where it also took the Audience Award. The film also won the Audience Award at Hawaii International Film Festival. The film was picked up for worldwide distribution by Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions and will be released theatrically in Spring 2020.
Paragas is currently developing a feature documentary The Three Lives of David Wong which was selected for Sundance Creative Producing Lab and won the CAAM Documentary for Social Change grant.
