Dignitas (esports)


Dignitas, formerly known as Team Dignitas, is a professional esports organization based in Newark, New Jersey, founded by Michael "ODEE" O'Dell on 9 September 2003 when Battlefield 1942 clans merged. Dignitas was acquired by the Philadelphia 76ers in September 2016. The team is best known for its League of Legends and squads.
The organization rebranded in October 2018, dropping "Team" from its name and replacing its old logo with an owlhead logo. In September 2019, Dignitas formed a new parent company, New Meta Entertainment, a digital sports and entertainment company operating in three primary verticals: esports teams, content and marketing, and investments. Michael Prindiville is the CEO of New Meta Entertainment.

Divisions

Currently, the organisation has teams competing in the following games:
In 2006 the Battlefield 2 team was chosen as the Battlefield 2 Team of the Year by Geeksnet.org. In May 2007 the British scene page UKCounterTerrorist.com and the renowned www.HLTV.org put the Counter-Strike 1.6 team as number one in Great Britain. By winning the first official international ' tournament at QuakeCon2007 the Enemy Territory: Quake Wars team gained the fame as the best team in the world. The World in Conflict team of Dignitas was nominated for the eSports Award 2007 as "eSport Team of the Year". In early 2008, the team's French FIFA player Maxime "Aghaton" Paulet was chosen as the Best French FIFA 07 player by the French community site FIFAFever.com. Towards the end of 2008, Cadred.org chose their team was recognized as the best European team, and won the award for best overall team. In early 2009, Dignitas' Call of Duty 4 and the Team Fortress 2 teams both managed to place first in Cadred.org's European rankings for three consecutive months.
Throughout the years Dignitas was able to achieve numerous important victories. In 2007 Dignitas was able to announce its first ever World Champion with Freek "XeNoGeaR" winning the Trackmania Nations competition at the Electronic Sports World Cup and taking home $10.000. Later also Fredrik "Bergie", Jesper "KarjeN" and Carl-Antoni "Carl Jr." have won big Trackmania competitions. August 2007 the Enemy Territory: Quake Wars team came victorious in the first ever International Quake Wars tournament at Quakecon 2007, taking home $22.000. Also in 2007, Dignitas player Shaun "Apollo" Clark placed first in ' at the World Cyber Games 2007, winning $12,000. The World Cyber Games 2008 would again be won by Dignitas, this time by player Pascal "Dackel" Pfefferle. In January 2011, Dignitas player Jeffrey "SjoW" Brusi won $7,500 after placing first in the Starcraft 2 IEM European Tournament.
Led by British team captain James "Bakery" Baker, the team made it to the Grand Finals of the 2015 Heroes of the Storm World Championship, and went on to win 4 of the 5 European Championships in 2016. The team continued great form in 2017, winning the first international competition of the year at IEM Katowice, and taking home another Silver medal in the mid-season World Championship. The team made roster changes at the start of 2018, and Josh "Snitch" Bennett became team captain. The team won the first international tournament of the year, making the team the 3 time back-to-back-to-back champions at IEM Katowice.
Dignitas' female roster won GIRLGAMER Esports Festival back-to-back in 2017 and 2018, and Intel Extreme Challenge Katowice in 2018 and 2019.

''League of Legends''

After being rejected as a franchise partner for the NA LCS in 2017, Dignitas returned to League of Legends in 2019 by acquiring Clutch Gaming. With Dignitas' coaching, Clutch climbed from ninth place at the end of the 2019 LCS Spring Season to qualifying for Worlds 2019 as North America's third seed. The team is set to compete under the Dignitas' banner in 2020.
