Dilpesend Kadın


Dilpesend Kadın was the fifth wife of Sultan Abdul Hamid II of the Ottoman Empire.

Life

Of Georgian origin, Dilpesend Kadın was born on 16 January 1861 in Tbilisi, Georgia. Her father was Maksud Giray Bey.
Before her marriage to Abdul Hamid, she served in the entourage of Tiryal Hanım, fourteenth wife of Sultan Mahmud II. After her death in 1882-3, as custom dictated, all of Tiryal Hanım's servants were transferred to Dolmabahçe Palace.
Dilpesend married Abdul Hamid on 10 April 1883. She was given the title of "Fourth Consort". On, 9 January 1884, a year after the marriage, she gave birth to her only child, a daughter, Naile Sultan. In 1895, she was elevated to the title of "Third Consort".

Death

Dilpesend Kadın died on 17 June 1901, at the age of forty, in the Yıldız Palace, and was buried in Yahya Efendi Cemetery, Istanbul.
