Dipak Chatterjee


Dipak Chatterjee is a fictional detective character created by Bengali writer Samarendranath Pandey in his pen name Swapan Kumar. The series of those stories were well-known in the sub altern culture of Kolkata and most popular pulp fiction to readers of Bengali literature.

Character

The first story of Dipak Chatterjee, Adrishya Sanket was published in 1953. Dipak is a private investigator of Kolkata, British India. Police often seek help from him. To solve the cases adventurous Dipak even goes to outside of India. He can use revolvers in both hands and expart at Martial Arts. Dipak has scientific knowledge, establishes a laboratory in his house to carry out experiments. His assistant Ratanlal usually accompanies him. Sometimes the plot of few stories are illogical and irrational with trivial faults. Most of the fictions are set in colonial Bengal. Total 20 series of Dipak Chatterjee story were published in three decades.
