During the 2018–19 season with Ambrì-Piotta, while in the midst of a breakout season and leading the National League in scoring with 43 points, Kubalík's NHL rights were traded by the Los Angeles Kings to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for a fifth-round pick in 2019, on 24 January 2019.
