The main causes of DISI are:
- Wrist trauma, with or without a fracture
- *Scaphoid fracture: bony DISI
- *Distal radius fracture: compensatory DISI
- *Malunion of radius fracture: adaptive DISI
- Scapholunate ligament instability: ligamentous DISI
