Dota (canton)


Dota is the 17th canton in the province of San José in Costa Rica. The canton covers an area of, and has a population of 6,940. The capital city of the canton is Santa María. It is part of Los Santos Zone, together with Tarrazú and León Cortés Castro.
The canton is delineated by the Río Savegre on the south and southeast, the Río Naranjo on the west and the Cordillera de Talamanca on the north and northeast.

Districts

The canton of Dota is subdivided into three districts :
  1. Santa María
  2. Jardín
  3. Copey

The canton was established by law on July 23, 1925.
