Eastern chat-tanager

The eastern chat-tanager is a species of bird formerly placed in the family Thraupidae.
It is found on the island of Hispaniola where it is now restricted to central and southern parts of the Dominican Republic. It formerly also occurred on the Samaná Peninsula as well as in Haiti. In the southwest of Hispaniola, it is replaced by the western chat-tanager, which was formerly considered conspecific.
Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, subtropical or tropical dry shrubland, and subtropical or tropical high-altitude shrubland. It is threatened by habitat loss.
