Elections in Ecuador
Ecuador elects on national level a head of state, , and a legislature. The President of the Republic and the Vice President are elected on one ballot for a four-year term by the people. The National Assembly has 137 members elected for a four-year term in the 24 provinces.
Ecuador has a multi-party system, with numerous parties in which no one party often has a chance of gaining power alone; consequently; parties must work with each other to form coalition governments.
