Electoral district of Gibson

Gibson is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. It was created by the redistribution conducted in 2016, and was contested for the first time at the 2018 state election.
Gibson lies southwest of the Adelaide city centre and includes the suburbs of Brighton, Dover Gardens, Hove, Marion, North Brighton, Oaklands Park, Seacombe Gardens, South Brighton, Sturt, Warradale and the southern portion of Somerton Park. At its creation, Gibson was projected to be notionally held by the Liberal Party with a swing of 3.2% required to lose it. The 2018 creation of Gibson replaced the electoral district of Bright, although only slightly over 9,000 electors from Bright remained in Gibson after the redistribution. Other electors came from Elder, Mitchell and Morphett.
Corey Wingard, the member for Mitchell before the 2018 election, successfully contested Gibson; while David Speirs, the member for Bright, successfully contested Black; both were members of the Liberal Party.
Gibson is named after Gladys Gibson , who was a teacher and women's activist in the middle of the twentieth century.
