Elton, Greater Manchester


Elton is a suburb of Bury, on the A58 road, in the Bury district, in the English county of Greater Manchester. The population of the Bury Ward taken at the 2011 census was 11,464. Elton has a superstore. There is a brook called Elton Brook and the River Irwell flows through the area via Burrs Country Park which is now a country park run by voluntary group, Friends of Burrs, who maintain the park. The park is the former home to the Burr and Higher Woodhill cotton mills, some features of the former mill are still visible to visitors.
Elton has a railway halt on the East Lancashire Railway, the local heritage railway opened the halt in October 2016 to attract visitors from the park and the Caravan Club site.
