Emilie Amundson


Emilie A. Amundson is an American politician and educator who was appointed by Governor-elect Tony Evers to serve as the 3rd Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families.
Amundson previously served as the Chief of Staff at the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

Biography

Career

Amundson holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and an M.A. in Education Policy from Harvard Graduate School of Education. She was an English teacher in the Middleton School District, an ESL teacher in Brooklyn, New York, and founder of the Urban Assembly School for Law and Justice in New York City before moving to Wisconsin.
While at DPI in Madison, Amundson served as Director of Literacy and Mathematics, English Language Arts Consultant, Assistant Director of the Content and Learning Team, and later as Chief of Staff within the cabinet of State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Evers. Amundson also served on the Boards of Wisconsin Literacy, Cooperative Children’s Book Center, Wisconsin Council of Teachers of English, and the Assembly of State Consultants of English Language Arts.
