Eqbal Mehdi


Eqbal Mehdi was a Pakistani painter artist. He is famous for his pen drawings.

Early life

Eqbal Mehdi was born to Syed Mir Ali, in Amroha, then British India which was also the native place of Jon Elia and Sadequain.
He migrated to Pakistan from Amroha in the early 1960s with his family remaining in India. His brother would later join him.

Art career

Eqbal Mehdi was a self-taught artist. Siraj Uddun Dehlvi was his first student from 1973. He joined Faiz Ahmed Faiz and Sibte Hassan's magazine, Lail o Nahar, and also did illustrations for another magazine, Sab Rang.

Art exhibits

Eqbal Mehdi died in Karachi on 19 May 2008 after suffering from heart and liver disease. Eqbal Mehdi left behind a wife, a daughter and a son named Farhan.
