Erin Bode

Erin Bode is an American singer from Minnesota who describes her music as a combination of jazz, folk, and pop.

Biography

Born the youngest of four children in Wayzata, Minnesota, Bode picked up her brother's trumpet at an early age. She was encouraged to learn music by her mother, a fan of classical and folk music, and her father, a Lutheran pastor. The family moved to Missouri when her father got a job at a church in Des Peres. She had always sung in choirs. In high school she grew interested in jazz and musicals, and she participated in community theater. She began college at the University of Minnesota before returning to St. Louis and attending Webster University, where she studied vocal jazz with Christine Hitt. Hitt encouraged her to sing publicly.
Bode released her first album independently. With radio support increasing her popularity, she was signed to Maxjazz, a label that was based in St. Louis. Her debut album included a cover version of "Time after Time" by Cyndi Lauper.
