Eugenio Cavallini


Eugenio Cavallini was an Italian conductor, composer, violinist, and violist. In 1833 he became first violinist of the orchestra at La Scala, a post he held through 1855. He also served as a conductor at La Scala, notably leading the world premieres of Gaetano Donizetti's Lucrezia Borgia, Donizetti's Gemma di Vergy, Donizetti's Maria Stuarda, Saverio Mercadante's Il giuramento, Mercadante's Il bravo, Giuseppe Verdi's Oberto, Verdi's Un giorno di regno, Donizetti's Maria Padilla, Verdi's Nabucco, Verdi's I Lombardi alla prima crociata, Verdi's Giovanna d'Arco, Federico Ricci's Estella di Murcia, and Domenico Ronzani's Salvator Rosa.
At La Scala Cavallini also conducted performances of Vincenzo Bellini's La sonnambula, Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore, Bellini's I puritani, Daniel Auber's La muette de Portici, Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, Donizetti's La fille du régiment, Donizetti's Don Pasquale, Donizetti's Linda di Chamounix, Verdi's Ernani, Verdi's Attila, Verdi's Jérusalem, Verdi's Rigoletto, Verdi's Il trovatore, Giacomo Meyerbeer's Les Huguenots, Donizetti's Maria di Rohan, Gioachino Rossini's The Barber of Seville, Errico Petrella's Marco Visconti, and Rossini's Otello.
