Faculty of Political Science and International Studies, University of Warsaw – faculty of the University of Warsaw providing education and scientific studies in the field of political science, social policy, international relations, homeland security and European studies. It also provides higher education in English: Political Science, International Relations and European Politics and Economics.
The Faculty of Political Science and International Studies is one of the largest education and research facilities in Central Europe. The scientific environment comprises over 180 research workers, who are involved in over 20 research grants. The faculty is a place of education for 3500 students and ca. 100 doctoral students. As part of international cooperation, WNPiSM UW has signed nearly 250 contracts with foreign university centres.
Political science together with international relations is ranked number 300-400 in the Shanghai Ranking 2020 and number 151-200 in QS World University Ranking 2020

History

The University of Warsaw dates back to 1816. A hundred years later, in 1917, the first School of Political Science was founded. The beginnings of the current Faculty can be sought in the Institute of Political Science, found in 1967 as part of the Department of Philosophy. In 1975, the Faculty of Journalism and Political Science was established, which expanded its research area with international relations, social policy, European studies and homeland security. In 2016, research workers related to journalism left the faculty, which resulted in changing its name to its current version. Since 2019 WNPiSM has functioned in a new structure, with over 15 scientific institutes and 2 research centres.

On 1 July 2019 a new organisation structure of the faculty was introduced, leading to reinforcement of research activities and division into 15 robust scientific centres and 2 independent research centres:

The faculty realizes five fields of study:
In 2017, the faculty moved to the renovated monumental Auditorium Maximum located in the main campus of the University of Warsaw, in the city centre of Warsaw. The renovated building houses the offices of the faculty administration as well as teaching rooms. The largest one – professor :pl:Jan Baszkiewicz|Jan Baszkiewicz Hall – seats 150 students and is one of the most modern areas of this kind at the University of Warsaw. In addition, the building houses a modern focus group interview laboratory equipped with a one-way mirror.
