Faisal Butt


Faisal Butt is an entrepreneur and investor currently based in London.
He founded Spire Ventures in partnership with businessman James Caan and founded proptech investment vehicle and accelerator Pi Labs in 2015.
His investment focus has a recurring theme in property, property services, and property related technology.

Early life and education

After graduating from UCLA in 1999, Butt started his career in Los Angeles with American Management Systems, a Forbes 500 ranked IT consulting firm. In 2003 he invested and actively ran a tech start-up called Tribal Monsoon. The company was a socially conscious e-business which specialised in the sale of South Asian cultural handmade products to global businesses and consumers.
He earned an MBA with distinction from Saïd Business School, University of Oxford in 2009 as a Skoll Foundation Scholar. During his studies at Oxford, he met his eventual business partner James Caan.
Butt won “Young Entrepreneur of the Year” by Shell Livewire in 2003 and in 2008 Oxford University's Skoll Scholarship, a highly sought-after scholarship awarded annually to five promising “social entrepreneurs”. He has since featured in Top 100 Asians in UK Tech, Estates Gazette Power List 2015 and the 40 under 40 award by Property Week.
He also co-founded a South Asian chapter of the organisation TiE, the world’s largest enterprise-focused non-profit.
Butt is also invested in five property ventures in five different sectors. He owns stakes in a range of companies including The Accouter Group, Ivy Gate, Opera, and 90 North.
Through his PropTech fund, PiLabs, he has also invested in tech companies such as AirSorted, AskPorter, Brolly, Built-ID, eMoov, Falcon DHQ, Hubble, Land Insight, Propoly, Plentific, Rialto, Realyse, Switchee, Trussle and YourWelcome.
