Finland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007


For the Eurovision Song Contest 2007, Finland will be acting as host of the Eurovision contest for the first time, after Lordi won in 2006. They were represented by Hanna Pakarinen with the song "Leave Me Alone". The song was composed by Martti Vuorinen and Miikka Huttunen, with lyrics by Martti Vuorinen and Pakarinen.
Hanna Pakarinen is a pop singer who came to fame by winning the Finnish Idols talent competition with 60% of the votes. She has had many hit singles and album successes behind her and is one of the most successful English language singers in Finland.

Before Eurovision

Euroviisut 2007

At the Eurovision Song Contest 2007, Finland chose their entry through Euroviisut 2007.

Competing entries

12 artists, all signed with Finnish record labels, were invited by Yle to compete in the competition.

Semi-finals

Before the final, semi-finals were held at the Tohloppi Studios in Tampere, hosted by Heikki Paasonen and Jaana Pelkonen. A song was selected for each of the twelve candidates by televoting.

Final

The final was held on 17 February 2007 at the Caribia Hall in Turku, hosted by Heikki Paasonen and Jaana Pelkonen. The winner was selected over two rounds of televoting. In the first round, the top three entries were selected to proceed to the second round. In the second round, "Leave Me Alone" performed by Hanna Pakarinen was selected as the winner.

At Eurovision

As the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 and host of the 2007 Contest, Finland automatically qualified for a place in the final, performed 5th in the running order, following Ireland and preceding Macedonia She came 17th with 53 points.
