Fyodor Okhlopkov


Fyodor Matveyevich Okhlopkov, was a Soviet sniper during World War II, credited with 429 kills. He was born in the village of Krest-Khaldzhay, Tomponsky District of Yakutia, Imperial Russia.
Okhlopkov was one of the most effective snipers in the Red Army during World War II. He was granted the status of Hero of the Soviet Union in 1965 as well as an Order of Lenin, after complaints he had been overlooked for the citations due to his ethnicity.
Later, a commercial cargo ship was named in his honour.
